Over the course of this month and the next three months, members of the Stephenson Harwood rail disputes team will be considering a number of topical issues relating to common areas of dispute in the rail industry.

In our first article, Charlotte Heywood and Darren Fodey consider dealing with change under franchise agreements and a number of "top tips" on how to avoid or manage disputes. Readers may well be aware that the change mechanism allows the financials set out in the franchise agreement to be opened up and amended if a change event occurs; the operation of which can be the cause of significant disputes.
